Forums Forums Matches and Tournaments True Second

You may come across mention of “no true second” when viewing tournament rules and this post explains what true second means in wrestling tournaments.

When wrestling in a bracketed event, it’s possible that the person who takes second (the person who lost in the finals) did not have an opportunity to wrestle the person who took third.

Since both second and third place wrestlers would have lost at at least once during the tournament, and since they didn’t wrestle each other, there is a chance the third place wrestler could beat the second place finisher.

When the tournament holds a “true second” place, the second place finisher wrestles the third place finisher (as long as they’ve not already wrestled in that tournament) and the winner of that match is the true second place winner.

Tournaments they advertise “no true second” means that the person who loses in the championships takes second and that is final. They do not wrestle the person who took third.
